Who Decided Frizzy Hair Was Bad and Long Labia Are Good?
Once I was standing on the beach at night with a tall handsome man and as he gently touched my cheek he said, “Your delicate strands of hair look like a halo in the moonlight.”
It was a great compliment that I’ll always remember. Those delicate strands were the frizzies poofing out from my head in the damp ocean air.
Remember, my frizzy-haired friends! There is nothing wrong with your hair. Your frizz looks like a halo in the moonlight!
I have a friend with beautiful long and curly hair that gets wild as the day goes on. It makes the perfect frame for her delicate features and she gets compliments about her hair all the time.
Her husband prefers her hair straight so she sometimes has it straightened. In my opinion, it adds years to her face and makes it look longer. She also has this one friend who is always suggesting hair products for her to try to ‘tame’ her hair.
Fortunately she only straightens it once in a great while because she loves her gorgeous messy mane!
Another friend has long, gorgeous rippling hair and she spends hours straightening it. One friend posted before and after photos on Facebook. When I asked her why she straightened her beautiful curls she proceeded to tell me how hideous they were.
I want to know what’s wrong with curly hair? Wouldn’t it be a boring world if we all had the same hair? Isn’t our hair part of what makes us unique? Short, long, up do, curly, straight, frizzy, red, black, blond, brown and now people dye their hair blue, purple and even rainbow.
Personally, I love my frizzy hair. I love how it fluffs out softly in the sunlight (and moonlight!) and how it sometimes floats in the breeze. I love that I can look in the mirror and be surprised. I might start out the day with my hair tamed and later it’s a big whirly mess.
I once accidentally started a new hairstyle in my high school. I had my hair pulled back but on each side some had escaped and made ringlets, not unlike Hasidic Jews. One of the popular girls saw me, liked my ringlets and the next day showed up with her own sideburn ringlets. After a few days most of the girls were sporting ringlets and most had to have the help of pin curls and curlers.
Anyone can have straight hair either naturally or artificially but can you make your straight hair frizzy? No.
And what’s with that tribe in Africa I read about that hangs rocks from their labia to stretch them out and make it more appealing?
Who decided long labia was better than natrual labia?
And why is thin better than curves, and straight teeth better than crooked and tall better than short? The list just goes on.
Who decides what’s beautiful and what’s not? Why can’t we just love the body we are in and be happy with what nature gave us?
Imagine a world without this type of judgment. Imagine all the things you could do in your life, the people you could help, the art you could create and the fun you could have with those hours you spend in the bathroom straightening your hair or hanging rocks from your labia.
