Social Media: You Are In Charge!
You have the power to make your social media experience whatever you want it to be.
A few days ago, one of my Facebook friends, canceled her account along with messenger. She said that Facebook was just too time-consuming and had become too negative and suggested people contact her in different ways.
She isn’t the first and won’t be the last and I’ll miss her posts. She is a friend of my son’s and is someone I know personally as an acquaintance, but not someone I would call or email for any reason.
Why will I miss her? She has the most adorable little toddler and has always posted delightful photos and videos of him and his antics. I’ve loved watching him grow up and feel sad that I will no longer get to see her posts. She has no idea of the joy she brought people like me and how sad we feel to have it snatched away.
Social Media can be negative. The past four years have been rough with politics, BLM tragedies and recently the invasion of our national capital. There are times I have stepped away or just checked in minimally. But, what I know is that I am in charge of my social media experience.
In 2010, I went through a really rough divorce. The drama was so severe, my life was even at risk and I ended up homeless without a car.
