I Don’t Care What You Say, Breast Feeding Isn’t Natural

When I say that breast feeding isn’t natural, I’m not talking about nature. Of course a woman’s body naturally produces milk for her offspring. What I’m talking about is the mechanics.

If you didn’t have trouble breast feeding, just skim on by and ignore this. If you are a guy, don’t automatically skim by because this information might be helpful to a future baby momma in your life.

My mom didn’t breast feed her children. In fact when I had my daughter, I didn’t know anyone who had breast fed a kid but I had no worries because I believed breast feeding was natural!

So, there I was, a hippie living in the boonies with my husband breast feeding my baby. I was living the life!

At her two week check-up my baby had lost weight. At her month check up, she had lost even more and the doctor was alarmed and told me I needed to supplement her with a bottle. I cried my guts out until he consoled me with these wise words. “I bet you were a bottle fed baby, and you turned out great. The first few weeks are the most important time and you’ve given her that.”

So, I sniffled and bravely went and bought bottles and formula. Once my daughter had a rubber nipple, she was no longer interested in mine. I won’t go into the graphic details but my boobs were not happy!
