5 Writing Lessons From the Zombie Apocalypse.
I hate blood, gore and violence but I’m creepily drawn to all things zombie. I love zombie apocalypse movies and read zombie books. To be honest, I turn away when the zombies are ripping people apart, and skim quickly during those parts in the books. So what draws me?
For one thing, zombies are pretty fascinating, each one unique in their deterioration. How do they keep going? What makes them work? How long can they rot away? Will their skeletons still be seeking out brains?
I think what I really love about these stories is how the survivors come together and help each other. Despite their loss and suffering, they find a way to survive and creative ways to get out of dire situations. They develop communities, and they never lose hope.
As a writer, I identify with these survivors. Despite work and graduate school, I find creative ways to keep writing and I never give up hope of being published by a major publisher.
That being said, it’s the zombies who have really taught me some great lessons!
1. Stay focused on the goal!
Zombies have one, and only one goal. That goal is to eat your flesh. Yes, they sometimes get distracted by that banging noise or honking horn and veer towards the sound, but in the end they always come…
